The Monongahela National Forest is seeking volunteers to assist trail staff in maintaining trails throughout the southern portion of the National Forest. Volunteers may work on wilderness and non-wilderness trails and work independently or with trail staff.


Major Duties:

· Remove litter, debris and vegetation growth from trails

· Reporting dead or downed trees to trail staff

· Keep record of hours worked and report this to staff


Positions are available across the southern portion of the Forest:

· Gauley Ranger District

Work Schedule:

The best time of year to complete trail work will be May through October but will depend on weather at the higher elevations.


Safety:

Regularly checking in with FS staff is preferred when working independently. Volunteers should wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy boots. The FS can provide gloves, safety glasses, hardhats and equipment needed to complete tasks.
