We are Mentor A Promise, a nonprofit organization providing social emotional learning, academic support and mentorship services to students experiencing housing instability in NYC.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Artist or Drama instructor with an interest and resume demonstrating that working in Art or Drama education is their main career focus. Additionally, they will have a demonstrable record of successfully building curriculum to meet the stated overarching goals and learning objectives of a broader program model. Experience working within the structures of culturally responsive pedagogical practice is a plus.

This particular role will work with our in-house art teachers.

Roles & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan classes that align pedagogically and philosophically with the stated goals and objectives of MAP
  • Oversee and deliver direct instruction of the curriculum to MAP
  • Help launch an Art store to showcase MAP art or drama
  • Assume full responsibility for successful classroom management during programs
  • Respond to participant needs in the moment and with a calm, appropriate demeanor
  • Revise plans as needed to ensure optimal participant engagement
  • Participate in regular faculty planning meetings and collaboration as determined necessary

We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. We connect students with our mentors for in-person and online programs.
