Position Overview:

We are seeking a Board Advisor with board governance expertise. The successful candidate will have deep understanding of international development issues, strong analytical skills, proven experience in designing and implementing social impact programs, excellent communication abilities, and a network within the UN system and broader social impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer high-level strategic advice that usually focuses on long-term business growth, innovation, and risk management.
  • Prove up-to-date insights into trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in the social impact space.
  • Connect the organization with potential business partners, investors, and clients, thereby opening new opportunities.
  • Providing mentorship to executives on topics such as leadership, development, crisis management, or succession planning.
  • Give insights into governance best practices to help companies stay aligned with their goals and values.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • UN experience:
    • Prior work with UN agencies, programs, or funds in a relevant capacity (e.g., policy development, program management, advocacy)
    • Familiarity with UN frameworks, procedures, and decision-making processes
    • Understanding of the UN system's strengths and limitations
  • Social impact expertise:
    • Proven track record in designing and implementing social impact initiatives across diverse areas like poverty alleviation, education, health, climate change adaptation, or gender equality
    • Expertise in developing and measuring social impact metrics
    • Knowledge of best practices in social impact assessment and reporting
  • Strategic thinking:
    • Capacity to develop comprehensive strategic plans aligned with UN goals and organizational priorities
    • Ability to identify emerging trends and potential opportunities in the social impact landscape
    • Skillful at navigating complex political and stakeholder dynamics
  • Communication and advocacy skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present complex issues to diverse audiences
    • Proven ability to advocate for social impact initiatives at various levels, including with policymakers and donors
    • Expertise in building strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Leadership and collaboration:
    • Ability to lead and facilitate collaborative efforts with diverse teams and stakeholders
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build consensus and foster positive working relationships

Commitment

  • Attend all board meetings and key organizational events as required.
  • Approximate time commitment: 2 hours monthly
