Seeking: Volunteers to work and to live at a National Forest Campground. Opportunity to meet different people, to learn about an area and to serve the nation’s public. Must enjoy the outdoors and like helping people.
Host duties: Have fun, provide visitor contacts; monitor sign board for damaged or missing signs; restock and tidy bathrooms; rake and clean campsites; empty out fire rings as needed; pick up trash; communicate needs such as vault pumping or dumpster service; report by radio to office the number of sites available each day.
Location: The campground is situated at the base of Storm King Mountain (elevation 10,849). It lies in an Aspen glen amidst rolling and rocky hills on the Middle Fork of Carnero Creek. There are 6 campsites and 2 picnic sites with tables, fire rings. A vault toilet is available. There is no drinking water available here. Firewood is limited and no refuse receptacles are provided. Fishing is found in area streams and mountain biking on forest roads. 4WD forest roads 685 and 684 are nearby.
Elevation is 9,500 feet.
There is no water or trash service. You'll need to pack it in/pack it out. There is also no cell phone service. Host's RV must be self-contained; there are no hook ups in the campground. Hosts may fill up their water tanks, as well as dispose of personal trash, at the Saguache Ranger District office. The office is a 50 minute drive to the town of Saguache.
The campground receives medium use. Fires are only allowed in designated fire rings. The closest towns are Del Norte, CO which is 28 miles and Saguache, Colorado which is about 38 miles away
