Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Seeking: Volunteers to work and to live at a National Forest Campground. Opportunity to meet different people, to learn about an area and to serve the nation’s public. Must enjoy the outdoors and like helping people.

Host duties: Have fun, provide visitor contacts; monitor sign board for damaged or missing signs; restock and tidy bathrooms; rake and clean campsites; empty out fire rings as needed; pick up trash; communicate needs such as vault pumping or dumpster service; report by radio to office the number of sites available each day.

Location: The campground is comprised of a single large loop, surrounded by a grass meadow in a Ponderosa Pine grove. The sites are large and well spaced with sites #16, 17 and 18 on a dead-end spur with no turn around. The open areas are dotted with wildflowers. It is convenient to State Hwy 114 for an overnight stay.

Elevation is 9,100 feet.

There is no water or trash service. You'll need to pack it in/pack it out. There is also no cell phone service. Host's RV must be self-contained; there are no hook ups in the campground. Hosts may fill up their water tanks, as well as dispose of personal trash, at the Saguache Ranger District office. The office is a 30 minute drive down Hwy 114 to the town of Saguache. Black water cannot be dumped at Buffalo Pass or in the town of Saguache. There is a campground in Villa Grove where you can dump. This typically costs $10-15.

The campground receives medium use. Fires are only allowed in designated fire rings. The closest town is Saguache, Colorado which is about 30 miles away.
