ACW will be hosting a large group cleanup of an illegal dumpsite in Pittsburgh’s Spring Hill neighborhood on Saturday, February 15. Register at https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MjI2OTc5#!

All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes or boots and long pants. Please be advised these cleanups are messy. Don't wear anything you don't want ruined. There are times we are working on steep hillsides, in alleyways, on abandoned lots, or near waterways.

Bring extra clothing as you may want to add layers, lose layers or change after the cleanup. We will provide work gloves and all other necessary tools and materials. Please be sure to bring your filled reusable water bottle!

Being a dumpbuster is satisfying, gratifying work. You’ll be astounded to see what a small, dedicated team of people can accomplish in just a few hours. Our efforts benefit not only ourselves by being an excellent workout, but the entire community by improving the health and well-being of the environment.

About Allegheny CleanWays

Mission Statement

Allegheny CleanWays is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2000 to engage and empower people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County.

Description

River Cleanups
Allegheny CleanWays’ riverfront cleanup program is aimed at creating trash-free rivers and streams throughout Allegheny County. Volunteers work with Allegheny CleanWays’ staff by boarding our pontoon boat, the Rachel Carson , from which they can pick up the plastic bottles, tires and other items littering the shores.

Because the rivers are a key feature of Allegheny County, partner organizations often join the cleanups and do other work such as invasive species removal, tree/flower planting, shoreline litter pickup, etc. These family-friendly cleanups are great opportunities to connect with and learn about the health of the region’s waterways.

Land-Based Cleanups
From our DumpBusters program to large cleanup events, the work that Allegheny CleanWays does to remove debris from the region’s hillsides, open lots, and greenways is the first crucial step to full restoration of the valuable green spaces that define the City of Pittsburgh.

When possible, Allegheny CleanWays works with other organizations that have a broader restoration goal in mind for the site after the cleanup, such as a trail or garden. When there is no specific goal for the land, we work with local residents to steward and restore the site.
