Petersburg National Battlefield contains dozens of earthworks: forts, artillery batteries, breastworks, salients, redoubts and redans. Our limited maintenance and resource management staff must often prioritize other areas of the park, causing some vegetation growth to go unchecked. As an earthwork management volunteer, you will assist park staff with the removal of woody vegetation, invasive species, and animal intrusions. Additionally, you may help control erosion by clearing brush and reseeding portions of earthworks prone to further damage.
