Volunteer - EYE Group Music Classes - Community-Building for Children in Foster Care
ORGANIZATION: ELEVATING CONNECTIONS
Please visit the new page to apply.

We need volunteers for our Empowering Youth Expressions (EYE) group music classes February 22nd-May 10th (on Saturdays). Elevating Connections is partnering with Musical Mentors Collaborative to offer FREE 12-week group music classes to children and youth who have experienced foster care. The types of instruments that MMC uses for group classes are drums, ukulele, recorder, violin, and keyboard. These classes build confidence, community, and self expression, and are led by an MMC facilitator with Elevating Connections' volunteers assisting.
Classes will be held at The Village Workspace and Event Center (7173 S Havana St #100, Centennial, CO 80112) on Saturdays, February 22nd-May 10th, 11:30am-2:30pm. Ages 6-18. Food will be provided.
Volunteer duties include supervision of the kids (making sure they are safe), participating in the activities with them, and helping to set up/clean up before and after the event. Sign up for one week, a few, or all of them! We love our volunteers!

Mission Statement
Elevating Connections is dedicated to building sustained positive relationships for current & former youth in foster care-including those experiencing sibling separation-to use their voice & build meaningful community connections. No one ages out of our programming.
Description
Elevating Connections was created in 2015 with the purpose of providing year-round programming for siblings separated in foster care to spend time together, as well as continuing their sibling summer camp, Camp Connect (formerly Camp to Belong Colorado). EC was also created to provide programming and community to youth that are "aging out" of foster care without meaningful, permanent connections, with intention to provide community and outlets for self-expression.
EC has a Sibling Connections program, as well as the Youth Connections program:
- The Sibling Connections program does twice-monthly arts and recreational events for siblings separated in foster care, both in Denver and Colorado Springs. We also organize a week-long overnight summer camp in August for siblings, where they are able to have uninterrupted time together to bond and be kids. The Sibling Connections program is for siblings ages 5-18.
- The Youth Connections program is for youth and young adults ages 15+ who have experienced foster care. We have monthly community dinners in the Denver Metro area, and do arts and youth voice programming throughout the year. This includes arts workshops, writing workshops, an annual poetry jam, as well as an annual arts festival. Through this programming, participants are able to express themselves, be in community with other youth, and learn different art modalities.
