Journey to Josiah Board Member

Position: Board Member
Location: Remote & In-Person (occasional travel for meetings/events)
Commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours per month

Organization Overview

Journey to Josiah is a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to increasing adoption and foster rates for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth through education, advocacy, and outreach. Our mission is to ensure that every child-regardless of identity-has a safe, loving, and affirming home.

Position Overview

We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a vital role in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability, and championing our mission.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute to setting the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
  • Provide oversight and direction for planning and decision-making.

Governance & Financial Oversight

  • Uphold fiduciary responsibilities, including budget approval and financial monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Advocacy & Fundraising

  • Actively promote Journey to Josiah’s mission within your networks.
  • Support fundraising efforts through donor cultivation and a personally meaningful financial contribution.

Engagement & Oversight

  • Attend and participate in quarterly board meetings (virtual or in-person).
  • Serve on at least one committee (e.g., fundraising, governance, programming).

Ambassadorship

  • Represent Journey to Josiah at community events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Foster connections to expand our impact and reach.

Qualifications

  • Strong passion for Journey to Josiah’s mission and vision.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Nonprofit leadership
    • Finance or law
    • Fundraising or donor relations
    • Community advocacy
    • 2SLGBTQIA+ rights
    • Child welfare
  • Ability to commit time and resources to meetings, events, and fundraising.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work constructively with other board members and staff.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous board or committee experience.
  • Personal or professional connection to the 2SLGBTQIA+ or foster care community.

Journey to Josiah offers workshops, training, and resources to support 2SLGBTQIA+ families and ensure inclusive, affirming care for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Our programs include parent education, agency training, and advocacy initiatives, all designed to create loving, supportive homes and reduce barriers to adoption and foster care.
