Compassus Hospice is in need of Administrative Volunteers at our Milford office! If you have a knack for clerical work and a desire to make a meaningful impact with your administrative skills, then you have found the right volunteer opportunity!
Examples of Administrative Volunteer Opportunities
- Creating Admissions Packets
- Bereavement Support (Letters and/or Phone Calls)
- Event Organizing
- Creating Gift Bags for Patients
- Assist with Research
- Decorating for Events
- Brainstorming Ideas for Events and Patients
- Tuck-In Calls (Checking-in with families/patients to ensure they have what they need prior to the weekend)
Volunteer Training
All volunteers receive free training at a local office or virtually. In the volunteer orientation, you will learn about the following:
- The goals and philosophy of hospice care
- The physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of death and dying
- Listening and communication skills
- Patient and family rights
- Professional boundaries
- Family relationships
- Grief and loss
- Spiritual and cultural diversity
- Patient confidentiality
Health Screening and Background Check
All required testing and health screening is paid for by Compassus.

Time Commitment
Minimum of 6 months to 1 year commitment. After completing training, volunteers determine the frequency of their visits/services and how much time they would like to spend at each visit/service they perform. Whether you give two hours a month or six hours a week, all efforts are appreciated and needed. Compassus will work around your schedule.
The Qualities of An Effective Hospice Volunteer
Hospice volunteers should have a compassionate and kind attitude toward their patients. They should strive to provide comfort and support for both the patient and their family members. They should be reliable, punctual, and prepared for the tasks assigned to them. Good communication skills are essential in this role. Hospice volunteers should have a good understanding of hospice services, as well as, the hospice philosophy of care, taught during training. Finally, hospice volunteers should be non-judgmental and respectful towards patients and their families.
Additional qualities of an effective hospice volunteer include:

- Willing to serve, whether directly with families or behind the scenes

Description
Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care provides for the end-of-life needs of the patients we care for. Our main office is located in Milford, CT. We serve those who are eligible for hospice care who reside in Fairfield County, New Haven County and Middlesex County. Hospice Compassus provides end-of-life care to those who wish to be under the care of hospice and who met the criteria. Hospice is for those whose life expectancy is six months or less. Our team is experienced in meeting the end-of-life needs of the patients with whom we work. Our goal is to provide compassionate care, psychosocial support, companionship, spiritual support and comfort to our patients to enhance the quality of their lives, remain comfortable and to die with dignity. With our patients and their loved ones, our team develops a comprehensive plan of care to best manage the patient's symptoms, values and wishes.
We believe that every moment of life is meaningful. We want our patients to live to their fullest abilities and enjoy their remaining time at the end of their lives. Our volunteers help us achieve this. Our volunteers are compassionate, caring individuals who offer our patients socialization, stimulation and companionship, as well as giving respite to our patients' loved ones.
