SCOPE OF WORK
The IRC Youth Department in San Diego County has operated since 1996, helping more than 300 refugee youth successfully stay in school, graduate, and transition to college or a career every year. The Youth Department’s focus is on newly arrived youth who may have experienced trauma and continue to navigate a great deal of stress through the process of acculturation and language acquisition. Throughout the year, IRC’s Youth Department facilitates a variety of programs to support students academic and social emotional learning growth.
IRC San Diego currently facilitates academic tutoring at multiple different high school sites in City Heights, with a potential to expand service areas. Volunteer tutors will work in person one-on-one and with small groups of students to support with assignment completion, subject matter learning, and/or language development. Volunteers will provide a positive, encouraging, and welcoming space for youth to develop their skills and understand their assignments!
