Volunteer with Eden Housing as a Financial Coach!

The need for a financial coach is simple: a financial plan, no matter how faultless, is still subject to human behavior and emotion. Financial coaching helps residents to establish processes and gain tools for balancing the behavioral and financial needs of their family/household.

Eden Housing's Eden Savers Program is set up to support our residents by being matched with a trained financial coach. Rather than simply educating or giving advice, coaches work one-on-one with our residents to help them improve their financial well-being, set and achieve meaningful financial goals, develop action steps, provide accountability, and serve as a resource for client questions.

All aspects of the Eden Savers Program are virtual: interviews are held over the phone, training is held on Zoom, and coach/resident meetings will be held remotely as well.

Qualifications & Requirements:
-Successful coaches are active listeners, curious, goal-oriented, and able to work in partnership with their clients.
-Knowledge of personal financial management is useful but not required.
-Bilingual Coaches who are fluent in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin requested.
-Coaches must attend a two-part, virtual training, held on weekdays, to learn Eden's provided financial curriculum, coaching practices, and tools that can be used with clients.
-Coaches meet with their client every other week for 6 months for a total of 12 meetings; coaching sessions are generally 60 minutes.
-Access to laptop, smartphone, tablet, and stable internet.

Benefits:
-Gain professional development and financial coaching experience.
-Professional experience gained working with a client setting and achieving financial goals.
-Develop a close working relationship with a resident and watch them succeed.

We are actively recruiting and interviewing for this role!

Mission Statement

Eden Housing creates and sustains high-quality affordable housing communities that advance equity and opportunity for all.

Description

Eden Housing, Inc. is a California non-profit corporation founded in 1968 by six community activists who were concerned about the lack of non-discriminatory, affordable housing in Northern California. These volunteers began by rehabilitating older homes in Hayward for first time homebuyer families. In the mid-1980s, Eden Housing incorporated an affiliated property management company, Eden Housing Management, Inc. (EHMI), which currently provides quality onsite management and maintenance for more than 9,000 affordable homes throughout California. In the mid-1990's, Eden Housing expanded its scope to include the provision of free onsite support services and programs for its residents. Our services include technology programming; "green" resident education; youth academic, enrichment and recreation programs; programs for seniors and persons with disabilities; financial literacy; job/career preparation; and health and wellness programs for all ages.

Today, Eden has a portfolio of 9,000 units at 145 properties across 15 counties in California. Eden develops new construction and acquires and rehabilitates existing properties to preserve them. During the past 53 years, over 65,000 people have come home to an Eden Housing community. At Eden Housing, we have more than 20,000 households on our waiting list and a portfolio-wide vacancy rate of 1%, demonstrating a huge demand for our work.
