Imagine the power of a handwritten letter to offer hope and support. As a pen pal volunteer, you have the unique opportunity to cultivate hope and nurture growth within individuals who may be experiencing isolation and disconnection within the correctional system. Through consistent and compassionate letter exchanges, you can provide a source of encouragement and support, fostering a sense of connection and helping individuals explore their potential.
This is a long-term commitment that requires dedication and consistent effort. A minimum commitment of one year (minimum 6-12 months) is essential to build a strong and enduring connection with your pen pal. To nurture this connection, we recommend exchanging 1-2 letters per month. This consistent communication allows for the development of a genuine bond and provides a consistent source of support for your pen pal.
Through these anonymous letter exchanges, you can offer a source of encouragement and support, helping individuals explore their potential and work towards personal growth. This experience provides an opportunity to contribute to their rehabilitation and help them become better individuals.
The rewards of this volunteer experience are immeasurable. You will experience the profound satisfaction of knowing you are making a positive impact on another person's life. This enriching experience will provide you with valuable insights into the human experience and the importance of compassion, empathy, and the power of human connection. By offering your time and friendship, you contribute to a more just and equitable society, fostering hope and supporting personal growth within the correctional system.
This volunteer role is ideal for individuals who possess a strong sense of empathy and a genuine desire to make a difference. A commitment to long-term volunteer work and consistent communication is crucial. Communication skills and a compassionate nature are essential qualities for successful pen pal volunteers. If you are seeking a meaningful way to give back to your community and experience the transformative power of human connection, we encourage you to join our Pen Pal Program.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote friendship, understanding, and community through providing an anonymous letter service for inmates in prison.
Description
I recently became acutely aware of the need inmates had to be loved and supported by members of the community. I decided to start writing a few inmates to show my love and support; to show them they are remembered. This became an uplifting experience and I felt blessed to be able to see more into the character of changed individuals. Their lives inspired me.
Our organization acknowledges that people are in different places in their transformation process (whether for inmates or for people living outside prison who are transforming their views). Wherever people are at in their lives, friendship is always a beautiful place to start building understanding and supporting change. Letters for Change hopes to unite communities.
