Description:
The SkillBridge intern will gain experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with working at a national park. The work involves relating factual information to the public in a manner that will promote understanding of the park’s history and resources. Duties will include staffing the visitor center information desk, answering phone calls, operating a cash register, conducting educational programs, and assisting park rangers and staff during tours, programs and events. Additional duties may include working with the park’s library, museum collection, and social media.
Position Duties:
Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site seeks a SkillBridge intern to work with the Visitor Services team. The work involves relating factual information to the public in a manner that will promote understanding of the park’s history and resources. Duties will include staffing the visitor center information desk, answering phone calls, operating a cash register, and assisting park rangers and staff during tours, programs and events. Additional duties may include working with the park’s library, museum collection, and social media. The volunteer serves as a front-line representative of the National Park Service working at the park visitor center. The volunteer will greet park visitors, provide information about the park, the museum, things to do, and directions to other regional attractions. Additionally, the volunteer will provide accurate information on the park’s history and the fur trade period in American history. Duties may also include stocking brochure displays, answering inquiries, operating office equipment, recording visitor statistics, and opening/closing of buildings and the site.
