Thielsen View Campground Host - Umpqua National Forest

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Few other sites in the Umpqua National Forest offer so much concentrated natural splendor than at Thielsen View Campground. Visitors can simultaneously bask in the shadow of Mount Bailey and get an unforgettable view of Mount Thielsen from across Diamond Lake. Like its sister site across the lake, Thielsen View Campground is a perennial favorite among anglers.

Thielsen View Campground is located about 80 miles east of Roseburg off Highway 138. The campground is on the western shore of Diamond Lake. A favorite with fishermen, the campground features a boat ramp and running water throughout the campground. Limited cell service (Verizon works best) and emergency phone is available at nearby the Diamond Lake Resort and Gatehouse at Diamond Lake Campground. Nearby full-service towns are Bend, Roseburg, Klamath Falls, and Medford, OR. Limited supplies can be purchased at the Diamond Lake Resort.

Campground Info: 60 sites, reservable online through Recreation.gov, with many of them on the shores of Diamond Lake. The campground has vault toilets. Showers are available nearby at Diamond Lake or Broken Arrow campgrounds.

Camp Host Duties include the following: welcome visitors, answering questions about the local area, reminding visitors of campground rules such as keeping campsites clean and leashing pets, performing compliance checks, updating reservation sheets, and communicating visitor conflicts to Forest Service (FS) staff. Other host duties involve helping with occasional campground needs such as picking up litter, cleaning picnic tables, grills and firepits, restocking toilet paper and fee envelopes, and communicating maintenance problems with FS staff. Restrooms are cleaned by a contractor. Volunteer must be able to lift and be mobile on varied terrain. Ability to use tools such as rakes, brooms, pruners, and shovels is preferred but not required.
