ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Multnomah County Library

Help us staff our used bookstore! Looking for assistance with customer service, sorting, and shelving. Prior experience working with books or in retail is very helpful. Ability to lift boxes of books a huge plus! Must be 18 years of age or older. We ask volunteers to make a weekly commitment for a six-month period.

Shifts: Tuesday-Saturday 11:00am-2:00pm & 2:00pm-5:00pm. We’re particularly looking for cashiers on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. We also need help with sorting/shelving on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.

Mission Statement

The Friends of the Multnomah County Library advocate for and support our outstanding public library. We are committed to raising the standard of excellence of our library by funding programs and services beyond what is allocated in the operating budget. We also sponsor activities which bring together people who value libraries.

Description

The Friends conduct the biggest book sales in Oregon each Spring and Fall. The Friends also run the Friends Library Store in the lobby of the Central Library. Merchandise includes used books donated by the community as well as greeting cards and literary gifts. We also sell donated books in our Amazon store.

The money raised by FOL supports library programs such as Pageturners, library staff enrichment, and management planning.
