The Catholic Charities-MANA House Kitchen Assistant helps to prepare hot and delicious meals to the Veterans we serve, and to help us create an atmosphere that fosters support and encouragement. Catholic Charities MANA House helps male veterans, who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, find stable housing by providing ongoing case management that includes transitional housing, financial planning, emergency assistance and more.

**Please Note: Date/Time does not reflect actual volunteer hours. Volunteer schedules will be coordinated with supervisor, following the onboarding process. You will receive an APPROVAL email upon completion.

Hours: Day/hours are flexible during Monday - Friday business hours, to be determined by the supervisor upon approval

Summary:

The Catholic Charities-MANA House Kitchen Assistant helps to prepare hot and delicious meals to the Veterans we serve, and to help us create an atmosphere that fosters support and encouragement. Catholic Charities MANA House helps male veterans who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness find stable housing by providing ongoing case management that includes transitional housing, financial planning, emergency assistance and more.

Security Level 2: Sterling’s Advanced (L2) Background Check, two (2) Reference Checks.

Time Commitment: A minimum of 1 shift per week, 3-4 hours

Tasks: (essential functions, not intended to be all-inclusive). Assist the Community Engagement Coordinator and Cook in the following:

Ensures excellent customer service to clients eating meals, treating every individual with dignity and respect.

Cleans refrigerators daily, ensure food is used promptly and there is no spoiled food in the refrigerator.

Log refrigerator, and freezer temperatures. Follow protocol for food entering the program, this includes both food coming into the facility and leftovers storage.

Cover, label, and date all food/drink items that go into a refrigerator or freezer.

Organize and maintain order in the dry storage area.

Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen appliances and ensure their proper storage. Ensure that work surfaces are clean. Set up food service & meal portioning. Minor food preparation.

Participating in training opportunities appropriate to the performance of his/her duties.

Meets regularly with Community Engagement Coordinator, Program Director, and Senior House Supervisor to review and assess the needs of the kitchen and supporting the MANA House Cook.
