An Area Representative requires a few hours a month - on your own schedule. It is a stipend paid role, and you can continue to work other jobs.

By getting involved as an ASSE Area Representative, you will be making a difference in the world - one young person at a time. As an ASSE Area Representative, you’ll be that all-important point person for students placed in your area during their year abroad. Counselor, advocate and friend are just some of the roles you will play as you oversee the ASSE program in your area and help an international student get the most out of their year abroad. In addition, you’ll help teenagers in your own community become ASSE exchange students abroad. Opening up the world of international, experiential learning to students in your area is an important role of being an ASSE Area Representative.

As a trained ASSE Area Representative, you’ll receive on-going support from your ASSE Area Coordinator and Regional Director as you take on a variety of challenging roles! Not only will you help young people from your own community and around the world, you will also get to know better the families in your own area. In addition, you will expand your circle of community contacts as you establish relationships with local schools, civic groups, clubs and religious organizations.

Take a look at just some of the skills you’ll use and responsibilities you’ll have.

Public relations:
Become a "P.R." person for ASSE in your community

Interviewing:
Recruit and screen prospective host families and students

Training:
Lead host family and student orientations

Counseling:
Offer support and guidance to exchange students and host families throughout the exchange year

Coordinating:
Plan and organize social and recreational activities for exchange students.

About ASSE International Student Exchange Programs

Location:

228 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, WI 92651, US

Mission Statement

ASSE's mission is to foster international understanding through educational and cross cultural programs.

Description

ASSE was established in 1976 as the American Scandinavian Student Exchange by the Swedish Government to organize student exchange programs between Sweden and the United States. Soon Denmark, Norway and Finland elected to participate. Since then, the program has grown to include: Great Britain, Canada, France, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, Argentina, Italy, Japan, Spain, Korea, Holland, Thailand, Portugal, China, Mongolia, Czech Republic, Poland, Taiwan, Romania, Moldova, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Slovakia, Australia, Turkey, Serbia, Estonia, New Zealand, Lithuania, Ukraine, USA and South Africa. ASSE is designated as an Exchange Visitor Program by the US Department of State. ASSE works closely with the Canadian provincial education ministries and is approved by the Ministry of Education in New Zealand. ASSE maintains 38 offices in 31 countries and accommodates more than 30,000 high school age students and host families in its programs in participating countries. The best way to truly become involved in the culture of a foreign country is to live among its people as a member of a family. ASSE Host Families understand that it is a privilege to welcome students into their home and country! For more information about becoming or hosting an ASSE student to or from one of our 38 countries, go to www.assehosts.com or email to info@asse.com.
