MAKE A DIFFERENCE! YOU can change the life of a person with disabilities. There are many volunteer opportunities at One Step Closer, regardless of your experience or inexperience with horses:
- Sidewalkers for riders that need assistance,
- Horse leaders for riders that need assistance,
- E-Newsletter production
We will work with you to find the area where you will feel most comfortable and that will be the most rewarding to you. Volunteers are always welcome!
It is our responsibility to insure the safety of everyone involved in our programs - participants, staff, and volunteers. We follow PATH standards, and volunteers are required to attend Volunteer Training at One Step Closer. Volunteer Training classes are scheduled as needed and taught by our Volunteer Coordinator.

Our equestrian organization uses the human-horse relationship to help the rider achieve his/her full potential - physically, socially, and spiritually - to be all that God intends for them to be.
Description
One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding is an adaptive horseback riding program. We offer therapeutic riding and other equine-related activities to individuals with physical and/or emotional disabilities, including our military veterans in partnership with Veterans Affairs Palo Alto. Whether on horseback, or playing ground games, these activities assist healing and physical development, stimulate learning, and build confidence and self-esteem. All lessons are planned and supervised by a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.
Specific One Step Closer equine related activities include:
- Adaptive riding lessons
- Veterans Program
- Summer Horse Camp
- Special events for Families of Fallen Soldiers
One Step Closer is a Premier Accredited Center of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) and a 501c non-profit serving the county of Santa Clara, California. Founded September 2006.
