Description
Oglebay Good Zoo is home to 68 species of animals, 20 of which are rare or endangered, the Good Zoo is the only institution in the state of West Virginia accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). In addition to providing family friendly, lifelong learning opportunities, the zoo participates in 23 conservation breeding programs known as SSP’s, or Species Survival programs that focus on sustainable breeding and management of the species in our care. Several of the SSP’s that the zoo participates in include the golden lion tamarin, Grevy’s zebra, cheetah, mongoose lemur, and red panda SSP’s.
Oglebay conducts other conservation projects including Raptor Rehabilitation and Eastern Hellbender conservation.
The zoo was named in honor of Philip Good, a young boy who loved nature and wildlife.
