Volunteer Job Description: Interagency Visitor Center Assistant
Location: King Salmon, Alaska

Overview:
Join us in a rewarding volunteer position at our Interagency Visitor Center located in the charming, isolated town of King Salmon. This vibrant community, while limited in resources, features a local grocery store and a welcoming atmosphere. As a Volunteer Interagency Visitor Center Assistant, you will play a vital role in enhancing the visitor experience, assisting with trip planning, and contributing to the local and park community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional service to visitors at the Interagency Visitor Center, addressing inquiries, providing information about local attractions, and assisting with trip planning.
- Park Partner Bookstore Operations:
- Assist with daily operations of the park partner bookstore, including making sales, balancing cash tills, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Restock merchandise and maintain the organization and cleanliness of the bookstore.
- Event and Program Support:
- Assist in planning and executing community events, educational programming, and outreach initiatives.
- Collaborate with park staff and community members to promote local heritage and conservation efforts.
- Park Correspondence: Aid in responding to park correspondence, including managing visitor inquiries through various communication channels.
- Cross-Training Opportunity: Gain valuable experience by participating in cross-training at the Brooks Camp location of the park.
Qualifications:
- Customer Service Skills: Strong experience in customer service and a genuine desire to help visitors and community members.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Independence: Ability to work independently and take initiative in a small, remote setting.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and adapt to the evolving needs of the center and community events.
