Position Description: Volunteers help support the education program by presenting curriculum-based programs for students in grades pre-K - 12th grade. The primary tasks of an Education Volunteer are to:
- Engage students in the different educational activities
- Support the scheduling and coordinating of programs
- Support with supplies inventory.
Volunteers will also have opportunities to work with members of the education team to present virtual programs to a variety of audiences. Other duties include participating in workshops, visiting schools, assisting with library programs, participating in special events in the park, and reporting safety, security, and maintenance concerns.
Duties: Learning and presenting education lessons on-site and off-site. Responsible for presenting different components of the lessons to the students. Engaging students to enhance learning experiences. Presenting virtual programs. Becoming familiar with the park’s technology. Becoming familiar with the park’s cultural and natural history. Presenting and developing education resources (i.e., games, handouts, etc.) to support virtual, on-site, and off-site programs. Supporting logistical communications with teachers. Supporting with Office organization and supplies inventory.

The role is suitable for those with: Ability to following lesson plan objectives. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Desire to assist and support the learning of students of all ages, backgrounds, and learning abilities. Enthusiasm, friendliness, and a positive attitude when mentoring students. Willingness to learn new information to enhance your ability to educate others. Organized and being on time. Basic computer skills. Fluency in Spanish or other languages (preferred but not required). Educational/teaching background (preferred but not required). Knowledge of designing curriculum-based programs (preferred but not required). Have FUN!
Qualifications: Must complete a federal background check.
Commitment: 32 hour per week (Mid-February to Early April)
Requirements: Age: 18 or older (have experience working with youth) Volunteers must wear a park issued volunteer uniform, name tag and close-toed shoes. As representatives of The National Park Service, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided prior to or during training.
Physical Conditions: Volunteers work may include standing for long periods of time, walking short and long distances. When working in the park it can be hot, humid, or cold depending on the season. Volunteers working in a school facility may not have air-conditioning, requires standing and walking short distances to the classrooms and carrying a backpack with resources for the classroom (10-25lbs).
Training: Orientation on the different lesson plans and activities within each. Shadow current education team members presenting on-site and off-site programs. Shadow current education team members presenting virtual programs. On-line training in interpretation, safety and security.
Housing: Park housing available. Might have to share the space with other people.
