Tools and supervision are provided by the host agency or organization. Experience nature up close. Travel to new destinations. Meet other outdoor enthusiasts. Take a vacation that nourishes your body & your spirit. Get Out. Give Back.

Project Specifics:

Join us in Moab to immerse yourself in a desert landscape among some of the south west’s most stunning geological features and national parks!

Located in the heart of the Colorado Plateau, the Bureau of Land Management Moab Field Office encompasses 1.8 million acres of stunningly scenic canyon country. Carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers, Moab’s public lands include a vast variety of arches, natural bridges, mesas, and spires.

The Moab Field Office is a mecca for recreation, including off-highway vehicles, mountain biking, climbing, base jumping, hiking, horse-back riding, and river rafting. The Field Office is known for evidence of dinosaurs and features the Mill Canyon Interpretive Track Site and Bone Trail. These canyonlands are home to many types of desert wildlife and the area supports a healthy population of bighorn sheep, and can provide great opportunities for wildlife viewing during the fall.

On this project, volunteers will conduct trailwork which will include: brushing, rock work (building structures with rock), benching, fencing, signage and general construction.

Hiking/Access

Volunteers will carpool up to 15 miles to the trailhead and then hike up to 5 miles to access the project worksites. Temperatures can reach up to 90 degrees during the day.

Area and Attractions

Canyon Rims Recreation Area includes 100,273 acres just south of Moab. Major activities include hiking, backpacking, and sightseeing. Scenic Byways within Canyon Rims, provide several scenic turnouts. Moab, Utah, home to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, is nearby and surrounded by some of the most stunning red rock landscapes on Earth. Moab's unique combination of small resort town hospitality, beautiful scenery and the cool waters of the Colorado River has made it one of the most sought after destinations in the American Southwest.

Accommodations Description

Volunteers will stay at a group campground with a vault toilet. Hot showers are available in town throughout the week. The host staff will provide water for the crew to use during the week. Volunteers need to bring their own tent and personal camping gear; sheets, bedding or sleeping bag; towels; and personal cup, bowl, mug, and eating utensils.
