ORGANIZATION: EMBRACE ABILITIES

We are a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to supporting differently-abled children and their families on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. While our mission has always been strong, recent challenges-rapid growth, leadership turnover, and the loss of key partnerships-have left us in a period of transition.

As the founder, I’m deeply committed to salvaging what we’ve built and continuing to serve our community, but I recognize that I need help navigating this critical moment. We’re seeking a skilled and compassionate volunteer to help us manage communications, rebuild trust, and reestablish connections with families, partners, and supporters.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a communications plan that addresses current challenges and shares the organization’s mission.
  • Craft clear, empathetic messaging for social media, email campaigns, and community updates.
  • Assist in rebuilding relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and families.
  • Provide strategic advice on reputation management and rebranding, if necessary.
  • Highlight the nonprofit’s successes and commitment to its mission through storytelling.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in communications, public relations, or crisis management.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an empathetic and professional tone.
  • Ability to work independently and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Passion for supporting differently-abled children and their families.
  • Availability to commit 3-5 hours per week for 2-3 months (flexible).

What You’ll Gain:

  • The opportunity to play a pivotal role in rebuilding a mission-driven nonprofit.
  • Experience in nonprofit crisis management and communications.
  • The chance to make a lasting impact on families who rely on our services.
  • Recognition for helping an organization rise from a challenging moment.

Additional Details:
We are a small, early-stage nonprofit that grew faster than we could handle, leading to unexpected challenges in leadership and partnerships. While we are currently operating with interim leaders focused on compliance, our mission to support differently-abled children and their families remains strong.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives on problem-solving, values second chances, and wants to help an organization regain its footing while creating meaningful change.

Mission Statement

Embrace Abilities is dedicated to empowering differently-abled children and young adults, ages 3-17, and their families by fostering inclusivity, connection, and growth. Through engaging social events, caregiver support, and community-driven programs, we create spaces for fun, friendship, and advocacy while equipping families with tools and resources to thrive.

Description

Embrace Abilities was founded with a mission to create a supportive and inclusive community for differently-abled children and their families across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Inspired by the desire to ensure no child feels left out or unsupported, we serve children aged 3-17 through free, family-focused programs and events.

Since our incorporation in April 2024, we’ve proudly served over 100 families, providing opportunities for connection, learning, and celebration. We host one monthly meetup, alternating between indoor and outdoor events, designed to foster social skills and meaningful relationships for both children and their families.

Signature programs include Birthday Buddies, where we celebrate children’s birthdays during meetups to make every child feel special, and Coffee with Caregivers, a space for parents to recharge, connect, and gain insights from guest speakers.

As we continue to grow, we’re working to establish a more stable leadership model to ensure we can sustainably meet the needs of the families we serve. Our goal is to build on this foundation, creating even more opportunities to celebrate and support differently-abled children and their families in the years ahead.

We’re always looking for passionate volunteers to join us! Whether you’re interested in event planning, engaging with families, or helping behind the scenes, there’s a role for you at Embrace Abilities. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive community.
