Description

Volunteers support the interdisciplinary team.
Administrative Support
* Provide indirect support to the patient and their families
* Perform clerical duties in the hospice office (putting together gift bags, holiday/birthday cards, arts & crafts, folders, etc.)
* Assist with fund raising functions
* Special projects (holiday crafts, goody bags, call bingo numbers, & assist the event coordinator w/various other projects and events at the facility)
* Assist with bereavement program by mailing letter, cards, making phone calls
* Others functions as determined by IDT and family
* Serving on committees
* Public relations
Volunteer functions can include:
Direct patient care:
 Provide direct support to patients and families,
 Run errands as needed
 Accompany patient/family to appointments
 Stay with patient while family has time away (respite)
 Prepare meals
 Assist with bereavement program by making visits to bereaved as determined on the bereavement plan of care
 Others functions as determined by IDT and family
 Serving on committees
 Public relations
As a direct patient care volunteer, you will be given an assignment for a specific patient and oriented to that patient. It is important to understand that each patient and family is different in how they react to death.
