Monroe County Friends of Animals (MCFA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer organization that has a mission to provide for and continuously improve the health, happiness, and fortunes of the homeless and abandoned cats and dogs in Monroe County. It owns and operates the Eastbourne Animal Center located in Madisonville, TN.
Job Summary:
The Thrift Store Manager position is a full-time leadership role responsible for the daily operations of the MCFA thrift store, ensuring a profitable and welcoming environment supporting the organization’s mission. This role involves staff management, inventory oversight, customer service, marketing, and financial accountability.
Responsibilities:
Store Operations Management
● Open and close the store per established procedures.
● Ensure the store is clean, organized, and fully stocked.
● Monitor and manage inventory, including accepting, sorting, and pricing donations.
● Maintain accurate records of sales, deposits, and expenses.
● Implement strategies to maximize revenue and reduce waste.
Volunteer Supervision
● Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers.
● Manage team performance, providing coaching and feedback as needed.
● Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
● Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate store goals and updates.
● Provide bottled water as needed for volunteers.
Customer Service
● Deliver excellent customer service, addressing concerns and resolving issues promptly.
● Develop relationships with regular customers and donors to encourage repeat business.
● Handle returns, complaints, and any challenging situations professionally.
Marketing and Promotion
● Plan and execute marketing initiatives, including sales, events, and social media campaigns.
● Create attractive displays to promote sales and highlight special items.
● Engage with the community to promote the store and attract new donors and shoppers.
● List available items on Ebay, Poshmark or other online sites to increase sales.
Financial Management
● Monitor sales performance and prepare weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports for the Board of Directors.
● Prepares and reviews daily register and Bank deposits.
● Manage the store budget, including payroll, supplies, and other operating costs.
Health and Safety Compliance
● Ensure the store complies with all health and safety regulations.
● Conduct regular inspections and maintain a safe environment for staff and customers.
● Train staff on emergency procedures and workplace safety.
Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
● 3+ years of retail management experience, preferably in a thrift or consignment store setting.
● Strong leadership and team management skills.
● Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
● Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software.
● Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
● Knowledge of merchandising and marketing strategies.
● Ability to work flexible schedules to meet business needs.

Physical Requirements:
While performing this job, the volunteer is regularly exposed to the general public in a retail store
environment. This position requires prolonged standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, stooping and lifting.

Support Monroe County Government and other related groups to provide shelter, food, care, adoption and health services for stray dogs and cats; Support the prevention of cruelty, neglect and abuse to dogs and cats; Benefit public safety by reducing the number of stray, unwanted or abandoned dogs and cats; Assist in raising funds to support the TN Monroe County Animal Shelter; Support local Spay/Neuter Assistance to Pets (SNAP) and other animal control initiatives; Provide education for responsible dog and cat ownership; Provide rescue transportation and removing of animals.

Mon roe County Friends Of Animals (MCFA) is a non-profit organization, formed in 2004, to prevent the cruelty to the dogs and cats of Monroe County TN. MCFA serves as a fund-raiser, and volunteer promoter, for the TN Monroe County Animal Shelter (MCAS) and the MCFA Thrift Store. All others involved with the shelter operations, including our Board of Directors, are unpaid volunteers.
