ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

This position functions within the Division of Administration at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park. The work involves supporting public outreach through multi-media projects. Work includes supporting program plans developed by program supervisors for the visual aspects of such visual materials as photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, objects, models, slides, and charts used in books, magazine, pamphlets, exhibits, live or video recorded speeches or lectures, and other means of communication such as web content where the general format and specific themes to be illustrated are predetermined.


Visual Information Specialist - Provides standardized visual and audio production services to park divisions using nationally established guidelines and industry standards. Using digital images, video, and graphics created electronically, the incumbent maintains the Media Project components of the park website or applications on smart phones and other portable devices. Following established guidelines, plans the visual aspects of printed materials such as books, pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, posters, handouts, activity schedules, bulletins, technical reports, trip planners, periodicals and other similar material which is produced by a printing process. With an emphasis on technical proficiency, prepares audio-visual presentations most generally for online consumption. In other situations, uses electronic devices to activate displays or that enable viewers to access information by a variety of electronic means. Assists in creating special effects by the use of special lighting, projections or video displays, or incorporate narration, music and sound effects. Assists and supports content maintenance and development of web pages (intranet/ internet) and social media sites (i.e., Twitter, Facebook, blogs). Maintains a sufficient working knowledge of new and emerging technologies and incorporates into products created. Works with park managers to use content and visual information products in a variety of predetermined formats, including exhibits, materials to be used by front line staff, and web-based content.
