As a hospice companionship volunteer for Care360 Hospice, your role is crucial in providing emotional support and companionship to patients facing end-of-life care. By simply being there to listen, hold a hand, or share stories with patients, you can make a significant difference in their quality of life during this challenging time. Your presence brings comfort and reassurance to not only the patient but also to their families who may be struggling with their loved one's terminal illness. Whether you are reading a book together, playing music, celebrating birthday's, attending veteran ceremonies, or just sitting in silence, your empathy and compassion are what truly matter. While it may not always be easy emotionally, the impact you have on the lives you encounter is immeasurable and will leave a lasting legacy of love and kindness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit hospice patients regularly, providing companionship and emotional support
  • Engage in conversations, listen to patients stories, and offer a comforting presence.
  • Participate in activities that the patient enjoys, such as reading, playing cards, playing music, or watching tv.
  • Celebrating patient birthday's, anniversary's, and Veteran Pinnings.
  • Maintain confidentiality, respect the privacy and dignity of each patient.
  • Communicate regularly with hospice staff to report on patient interactions and any notable observations.

Qualifications

  • Compassionate, empathetic, kindhearted, and understanding.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide non-judgmental, supportive companionship
  • Reliability and commitment to regular volunteer visits.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Completion of background check and volunteer training program provided by Care360 Hospice, the expenses of which are covered by our agency.

Hospice volunteers come from all walks of life - students, retirees, professionals, stay at home parents, and veterans - all are welcome.

Service Area

  • NWO/ Toledo - Sylvania, Maumee, Perrysburg, Whitehouse, Waterville, Pemberville, Oregon, Bowling Green, Napoleon, Findlay. Volunteers only travel within their comfort area!
