FAVE March 2025 Event: "March Matches" book bundles for students with 826LA
Why: Reading and writing are essential skills for students to master in order to be successful in all aspects of learning. Studies show that something simple such as access to books increase academic outcomes. That's why creating book bundles with books, writing notebooks, and bookmarks for LA826 will help spark a love of reading, writing, and learning in students that the center serves.
Who: Our nonprofit partner, 826LA, provides after-school tutoring in all subjects, evening and weekend workshops, in-school programs, field trips, college access, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. 826LA is dedicated to unlocking and cultivating the creative power of writing for students ages 6 to 18, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Mission Statement
826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this in mind, we provide after school tutoring, reading and creative writing workshops, in-schools projects, and field trips! All of our programs are challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in their individual voice. We have two brick and mortars in Mar Vista and Echo Park, as well as three Writers Rooms at Roosevelt High School, at Manual Arts High School, and at Venice High School.
Description
We have a high need for volunteers to support our day time Field Trips and In-Schools programs. You can help facilitate brainstorming sessions and share-outs, type up student ideas, and support the editing process. You'll also have the opportunity to work one-on-one or with a small group of students, on various writing projects ranging from personal statement essays, Catcher in the Rye essays, poetry, creative writing, and everything in between.
