Denali National Park Events and Outreach Coordinator

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

This is a dual position, two days per week (16 hours) in the office as the Events and Outreach Coordinator and two days (16 hours) per week in the field providing wildlife safety messages to park visitors at the Savage River area and occasionally at other trail heads and on trails in the front country (developed) area of the park.

Every duty will strengthen the Volunteer-In-Parks Program at Denali National Park and Preserve. Civic engagement is key to accomplishing the National Park Service mission. Visits to national parks inspire people to plan another trip, to tell their friends, and often, to ask how they can help. Providing avenues for visitors and advocates of national parks to volunteer and "give back" is crucial to preserving the natural and cultural history of Denali National Park and Preserve; and a strong and responsive Volunteer Program is necessary to accomplish this.

Administrative duties are to provide logistics (public service announcements, press releases, social media coverage, supplies, campsites, etc.) for the park's four main public volunteer events and any episodic groups that come to the park to volunteer.

The volunteer must have excellent customer service skills and be computer proficient.

The volunteer in this position is also expected to elevate Denali's volunteer program on the park's various social media platforms and help strengthen the park's relationship with the local community through volunteer opportunities.

The field half of this position is stationed at the Savage River Area as a Wildlife Safety and Education volunteer. The volunteer will work at the Savage River Area to help educate visitors in appropriate behavior in wilderness and when encountering wildlife, namely bears, as well as dispense general park and area information.

The Savage River Area is a hotspot for human-wildlife interactions in Denali National Park and Preserve. The volunteer must be able to work independently and interact with visitors in a busy place, deliver often times complex information and perform a variety of duties from informal interpretation to traffic/parking control.
