Share your skills! Do you have formal teaching experience? Want to share those skills to help someone reach their career goals faster? We are looking for volunteers to tutor Binghampton Development Corporation’s workforce clients in reading and writing. You’ll use their class materials to teach them reading strategies they can use on the job.

If you are available during the day on weekdays and have 3-4 hours to give per week, for ten-week sessions, we would love to talk!

We will provide continuous training and learning opportunities that enhance the skills necessary to tutor literacy. Additionally, we partner closely with you to ensure successful sessions. You will bring your knowledge of lesson/unit planning for multi-level small groups, scaffolding strategies to capture all learners, and flexibility and cooperation in working with business professionals.

Fill out our volunteer interest form to choose a Launch Session to learn more!

About Literacy Mid-South

Location:

PO Box 111229, Memphis, TN 38111, US

Mission Statement

Our vision is 100% literacy in the Mid-South. Literacy Mid-South is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a community actively engaged in continuous learning. Somewhere between 20% to 30% of adults in the Memphis metro area are functionally illiterate. That means more than just unemployment -- their minds are unused and their dreams are unrealized.

Description

YOU can help. There is no greater gift to give than helping a person succeed. Facilitate learning in the life of an adult who struggles with reading, writing, math and English as a foreign language through Literacy Mid-South's Adult Learning Program and English For You program. Volunteers are able to serve as facilitators to groups of adults or provide individual goal-centered tutoring to an adult learner.
