If you are looking to spend some time in "canyon country," experience some of the darkest skies in the lower 48, and work with a fun and energetic team of park rangers and volunteers, the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park might be for you!
We are looking for couples or individuals with an RV to serve as volunteer campground hosts for May, September, and November of 2025. These terms are one-month long but could be extended depending on circumstances.
The Needles is a very rural location with no cellular service. Much of the park is wilderness and staff residing within the park enjoy unparalleled access to explore this remote landscape. The nearest small town of Monticello, UT is located an hour drive from the Needles District.
Campground Host duties:
- Performing campground compliance checks twice daily and contacting the visitor center to report site vacancies.
- Answering visitor questions and providing safety messaging about the park and surrounding area
- Performing routine litter removal and light maintenance to assist in keeping the campground presentable.
- Roving district trails to interact with visitors, provide trail condition updates, and report resource damage.
- Making educational contacts for small campground infractions, such as food storage or pets off leash.
In addition, there are opportunities to assist staff by working at our Visitor Center front desk and potentially assisting in Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
Benefits include:
- Dedicated campground host site in the Needles Campground for the duration of your service.
- Water hook-ups for RVs and campers. (Note that there are no power/electricity hook-ups in the campground.)
- Up to $100 in propane reimbursement per month
Requirements:
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who likes to meet people of all ages and backgrounds, loves working with people, and enjoys the off-grid experience. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with people of all ages and abilities and have strong communication skills. The volunteer will be working without daily supervision and must be self-motivated.
