Musicians to offer peace and comfort

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Gentiva Hospice

Gentiva Hospice is welcoming new volunteers from all walks of life. We are currently seeking musician volunteers to join our team to offer supportive musical companionship to terminally patients in the Portland Metro area.

Hospice volunteers are important members of our team, supplementing the services provided by clinicians. Volunteers join a team of physicians, nurses, social workers, nursing assistants, spiritual care coordinators and more to serve our terminally ill community in a holistic manner.

A musical companion volunteer will sing or play an instrument of their choice to one patient at a time. They will receive the same comprehensive orientation as other volunteers and bring their gift of sound to share. The musician does not need to be a certified music therapist. They simply need to be compassionate and have some musical talent they hope to share. Music is so much more than a source of joy. Music has been proven to alleviate pain and anxieties, as well as improve their overall quality of life. It can help patients process emotions and express themselves, an important part of the end of a person's life.
