The Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest encourages high school students to reflect on core values such as honesty, perseverance, and compassion through essay writing, fostering character development and academic success. A statewide program, it inspires students to explore values that build strong communities and bright futures.

The Volunteer Administrative Assistant will work with a small staff team to ensure a timely and accurate essay review process, involving 100+ essay judge volunteers working remotely to select student essay winners and contest wrap up duties.

This position is active from February to May, with the opportunity to expand into other aspects of the organization and continue into the next phase of the contest cycle, including student recognition events and planning for the upcoming year.

Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize Google Workspace, Microsoft Office tools, and online data platforms to support administrative needs, such as managing shared drives, creating & updating spreadsheets.

  2. Schedule and follow up on meetings with volunteers, providing necessary materials and timely reminders.

  3. Provide deadline-driven, accurate reports to the Program Manager, such as volunteer scoring summaries and essay submission statistics.

  4. Communicate effectively with the Program Manager and Executive Director to ensure smooth operations and alignment with program goals.

  5. Maintain clear, professional communication with educators and volunteers, addressing inquiries and providing updates as needed.

  6. Demonstrate dependability, self-motivation, and attention to detail in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office products.

  • Virtual position with needed IT equipment, Metro Atlanta candidates preferred, yet not required.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A passion for education and youth development is a plus.

The Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest the sole program of the Georgia Rotary Districts Character Education Program, Inc (GRDCEP), a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, is an annual character education and ethical literacy program offered to more than more than 40,000 students in grades 9 th - 12 th from over 70 high schools throughout the State. Our mission is to promote and build character values and ethical literacy among high school students in Georgia.
