Rev up those sewing machines!
Among other projects, we're looking for someone with the skills to create full-sized period-accurate clothing to demonstrate past styles of dress in the Copper Country.
All volunteers will be screened for prior proficiency in sewing. We recommend collecting a few of your favorite creations to show off for an in-person or online interview!
The park will provide full compensation for the cost of all consumable fabrics, threads, and needles. Volunteers should have their own sewing machine.
Duties:
- Assist staff in a variety of sewing and fabric-working related projects (mending, etc.)
- Work with park staff to create items for interactive exhibits to be placed in the park’s visitor center.
- Keep detailed inventory and receipts for costs of all consumable materials.
- Ability to work within a previously approved budget.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Prior skill and ability to sew without any instruction from park staff.
- Ability to learn to replicate dress from historical eras without premade patterns and based upon photographs and real-life replicas.
- Ability to use or acquire a personal sewing machine.
- Keen attention to detail and love for UP history.
Physical Demands : Long periods of standing or sitting. Lifting of heavy objects may be necessary.
Minimum Age : 18 years
Minimum Time Requirement : Recommend regular schedule, but variable according to volunteers’ commitment and suitability in position. A minimum of four hours per week is preferred.
Anticipated work schedule : Work Schedule is flexible. Weekday, weekends, usually between hours of 9-5.
