As the Lead Tour Ambassador for Gateway National Recreation Area, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating interpretive tours, engaging visitors, and fostering a deep appreciation for the park's natural and cultural resources. You will work closely with a team of interpreters, rangers, and volunteers to provide informative and memorable experiences for park visitors.
The Lead Tour Ambassador will:
1. Lead guided tours of the park's key attractions, including trails, historical sites, and visitor centers.
2. Deliver engaging, informative, and interactive presentations that highlight the park's natural and cultural significance.
3. Ensure visitor safety and adherence to park regulations during tours.
4. Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors of all ages and backgrounds
5. Answer questions, provide information, and share knowledge about the park's history, geology, flora, and fauna.
6. Encourage visitors to respect and protect the park's resources.
7. Collaborate with other interpreters, rangers, and volunteers to schedule and coordinate tours.
8. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior interpreters and volunteers.
9. Assist in the training and development of interpretive staff.
10. Contribute to the development of new interpretive programs and exhibits.
11. Stay updated on current research and trends in park management, conservation, and interpretation.
12. Assist in creating educational materials and resources for park visitors.
13. Collect and analyze visitor feedback to improve tour experiences and program offerings.
14. Address visitor concerns and resolve issues in a professional and courteous manner.
15. Maintain accurate records of tour attendance, visitor demographics, and other relevant data.
16. Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions.
17. May work with a team of volunteer groups. Collaborates with Volunteer Group Leaders to ensure projects flow
smoothly.
18. Wear a volunteer uniform while assisting with visitor center operations, special events, and projects.
Skills needed/preferred:
Potential volunteers need experience in public speaking, time management, problem solving, communication, organization, and collaboration. Experience as a park interpreter, tour guide, or in a similar role. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Customer service-oriented with a positive attitude. Knowledge of Fort Wadsworth history would be helpful but not necessary. A background check may be required.
