The Dispute Resolution Board Member will act as a formal representative for the Dispute Resolution Team and all volunteer associated activities, short and long-term goals, current projects and plans, and internal communications. The board member will also have full authority and be responsible for developing policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the organization, and monitor the organization's programs, policies and overall performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Fully understand and commit to the mission, goals, and objectives of the organization.

  • Fully understand the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors.

  • Fully understand the roles and responsibilities of the staff and other volunteers.

  • Full understand the day-to-day activities of the organization.

  • Prepare for and attend all meetings of the Board of Directors.

  • Serve on the Dispute Resolution Committee and subcommittees as appointed or elected.

  • Provide general advice and assistance to the organization upon request by Board members and/or staff.

  • Provide reports, materials, and other items associated with Board responsibilities and activities in a timely manner.

  • Inform the Board of all actual and potential conflicts of interest relating to the general purposes and activities of the organization and to specific issues before the board.

  • Attend monthly online board meetings with all committees and volunteers.

  • Other responsibilities as requested by the Board of Directors, the Board Chair, or other officers of the Board

Required Time Committment: 10 - 15 hours/month; 1 year term

Attend Board of Director Meetings every 2nd Tuesday of the month

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Conflict Resolution, Law, Psychology, Business, Communications, Human Resources or Sociology. Juris Doctor (J.D. a plus)

  • At least 3 years of current and/or previous experience in arbitration, litigation, mediation, negotiation, conciliation, and/or collaborative law

  • Experience with managing a dispute resolution team and delegating tasks

  • Strong skills in mediation, conflict analysis and resolution, negotiation, communication, interpersonal skills, and ethics.

  • Current and/or or previous experience as a Board Member a plus.
