Join the Empowered Futures Legal Team as a Board Member. The Board Member of the Legal Committee will act as a formal representative for the Legal Team volunteers and their associated activities, short and long-term goals, current projects and plans, and internal communications.The board member will also have full authority and responsibility to develop policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the organization, and monitor the organization's legal standing, programs and overall performance.
Responsibilities:
Fully understand and commit to the mission, goals, and objectives of the Empowered Futures organization.
Fully understand the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors.
Fully understand the roles and responsibilities of the staff and other volunteers.
Full understand the day-to-day activities of the organization.
Prepare for and attend all meetings of the Board of Directors.
Serve on the Legal Board committee and subcommittees as appointed or elected.
Provide general advice and assistance to the organization upon request by Board members and/or staff.
Provide reports, materials, and other items associated with Board responsibilities and activities in a timely manner.
Inform the Board of all actual and potential conflicts of interest relating to the general purposes and activities of the organization and to specific issues before the board.
Attend monthly online board meetings with all committees and volunteers
Other responsibilities as requested by the Board of Directors, the Board Chair, or other officers of the Board.
Manage the Organization's Policy & Personnel:
To make a final determination and vote on the strategic plan for the organization and evaluate the organization’s performance in accomplishing its mission on an annual basis.
To review, discuss and vote on program committee guidelines, and to vote on all grant submissions for funding.
To develop policies for the operation of the program committees, and to develop policies for trustee participation on the Board.
To discuss and determine performance standards for the Dispute Resolution Team volunteers and evaluate performance on an annual basis.
Required Time Committment: 10 - 15 hours/month; 1 year term
Attendance at Board Member monthly meetings every 2nd Tuesday of the month
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Law or Juris Doctor (J.D.)
At least 3 years of current and/or previous experience in a legal position
Previous experience in employment, corporate, civil, business, non-profit, contract, patent or general law
Experience with preparing legal documents, advising, conducting research, and negotiating agreements
Current and/or or previous experience as a Board Member a plus
