Purpose:
This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Services Department (ISD) Operations International Disaster Response (OPS-IDR) unit.
Highly experienced and trained American Red Cross disaster response managers provide strategic and operational leadership within IFRC response operations on behalf of the affected National Society, ensuring effective coordination, assessment, analysis, and planning with relevant actors (including the national society, other Red Cross Red Crescent societies, governmental, and non-governmental stakeholders).

Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Operations Manager (OM) are related to strategy and priorities definition, management of the overall operation, external coordination, Movement coordination, security management, and ensuring the evolution of Red Cross services to meet the evolving needs of communities, including in its transition to recovery. Time Commitment:
- IDR Roster Members must be able to commit to deploy at a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks out of the calendar year.
- In addition to deployment availability, must be available to attend Learning and Development activities either in person or virtual, especially during initial months of becoming an IDR Roster member.
- Engagement opportunities for candidates (ex. training/skills development) will vary by individual.
Volunteer Frequency: Weekly Monthly Quarterly
Qualifications
Required:
- A combined experience of 7+ years in the following:
- Disaster management leadership (international or domestic) including field experience and managing staff
- Management over a budget, HR decisions, logistics
- Experience and knowledge of project management
- Experience in program cycle management including proposal development, budgeting, and reporting, monitoring and evaluation
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Fluency in written & spoken IFRC priority language (Spanish, French, Arabic)
- Motivation and strong commitment to the Red Cross Red Crescent’s Fundamental Principles.
- International experience with Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement (e.g. surge/disaster deployment, relief or recovery delegation or country office/regional office roles)
- Current and valid passport
- Submission of resume
Preferred:
- Proficient in writing, editing, and speaking (including business terminology) in another foreign language
- Experience with Internal/external coordination, specifically working with government entities and non-governmental organizations
Length of Appointment: Candidates will remain in placeholder position until an accept/reject decision is made by IDR Roster Management.
