Reports To: Founder/President & CEO

Location: Remote (Potential to transition into a paid role)

Position Overview: United Social Services Inc. (USS) seeks a visionary and strategic individual to serve as our Chief Development Officer (CDO). This volunteer position plays a critical role in driving the organization’s fundraising, partnership, and resource development efforts. As USS grows, this position has the potential to transition into a paid role based on the success of the organization’s initiatives and funding.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

* Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with USS’s mission and goals.

* Build and oversee a sustainable development department, including donor cultivation, grant acquisition, corporate partnerships, and events.

* Collaborate with the Founder/President & CEO and Board of Directors to set and achieve revenue goals.

Fundraising & Donor Relations:

* Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual, corporate, and foundation donors.

* Create and maintain a donor stewardship plan to enhance long-term relationships.

* Research and pursue grant opportunities to fund USS programs and initiatives.

Communications & Public Relations:

* Develop compelling messaging and campaigns to effectively communicate USS’s mission and impact.

* Represent USS through video capabilities for events, conferences, and other networking opportunities to raise awareness and secure support.

Team Collaboration:

* Work closely with a development team of volunteers and staff to identify & secure funding.

* Support the recruitment and development of a volunteer fundraising committee if needed.

Data & Reporting:

* Maintain accurate records of fundraising activities, donor contributions, and financial goals.

* Provide regular updates to the Founder/President & CEO and Board of Directors on progress toward development goals.

Qualifications

* Proven experience in fundraising, business development, or nonprofit management.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage stakeholders.

* Demonstrated ability to secure funding through grants, donations, or sponsorships.

* Strategic thinker with exceptional organizational and leadership abilities.

* Passion for USS’s mission and a commitment to social change.

* Existing network of philanthropic or corporate contacts.

* Knowledge of donor management software or CRM tools.

* Experience working with diverse populations, including those served by USS programs.

Description

United Social Services Inc. (USS) was founded over six years ago by Lee Wallace in San Antonio, Texas, with the mission to uplift and support at-risk and homeless young adults, LGBTQ adults, foster care adults, disabled persons, senior citizens, and families. USS has persevered through financial challenges, including a near closure, to continue serving its community and creating pathways to stability and success. USS offers a wide range of programs, including housing solutions under the Pathways to Home initiative, career development through Career Compass, health and wellness support with Wellbeing Matters, and community-building efforts via Community Connect. Each program is designed to address interconnected needs, from food and transportation to life skills and job training. USS has achieved milestones such as helping participants secure permanent housing, obtain professional certifications, and develop life-changing skills. Intending to impact 100-200 individuals per program annually from 2025 -2030, USS continues to work toward building a more inclusive and supportive community.
