About Music for Minors

For almost 50 years, Music for Minors (MFM) has been providing solutions for schools and school districts to ensure access to essential elementary music education programs. Founded originally to address the loss of programs due to diminishing school budgets, MFM has become a leading provider of quality music programs throughout Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. Programs are delivered by professional teaching artists, recruited, trained and mentored by MFM, ensuring a well-rounded education that promotes both musical and academic skill-building, acceptance of diverse cultures, and a life-long love of and engagement in music.   • Founded in 1976 by Grace Johnston, a stalwart advocate who would not accept the loss of music in education for her own children as well as local and future children.

Board Service Commitments

The Board of Trustees commits to ensuring the overall health of the organization through collective work to advance our mission. This commitment comprises the dedication of time, talent and treasure.

  • Attend bi-monthly board meetings (6x/year) in person or virtually; serve on a committee.

  • Participate in fundraising activities, including stewardship of donors and participation

  • Be proactive, goodwill ambassadors in the community.

  • Help identify and recruit new board members to diversify our team.

  • Attend MFM program and fundraising events, annual school site visits, and build relationships with key constituent groups.

  • Ensure adequate resources for the organization to thrive, accomplished by personal giving or securing support from others. We ask that Trustees give or get at a level that is personally significant to them, and that Music for Minors is prioritized in their charitable giving.

  • Above all, be engaged and ask good questions.

Description

Music for Minors has been bringing music education to elementary schools in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties since 1977. We offer extensive training and resources to help volunteers to be confident classroom volunteers. MFM represents the only music education many of the children served will ever have! MFM volunteers are critical players in keeping music alive for both children and schools.
