The Playroom Volunteer at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Perinatal Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program will join the multidisciplinary team to support the health and well-being of patients with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Volunteers will be working in the adjacent playroom while their mothers are attending the program next door. They may also conduct or oversee the serving of meals and snacks, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, and assisting children with a variety of tasks as requested by the child. This includes ensuring a clean, safe, and nurturing environment that aligns with standards established by the department and/or regulatory entities. The objective of the volunteers is to assist the Playroom Coordinator in caring for the infants. In this position you will:

  • Provide direct care of infants (ages 0 - 1 year) of individuals participating in WBHW IOP program including:
    • verbal engagement
    • developmentally appropriate play activities
    • infant feeding
    • and providing an appropriate environment for sleep or relaxation.
  • Provide multiculturally sensitive care to all enrolled caregivers and infants.  
  • Develop and maintain a positive and confidential relationship with each caregiver

We are asking for consistent volunteers so that our mamas can get to know you and feel comfortable leaving their babies in the playroom.

Description

The Healthy Expectations Intensive Outpatient Program is housed under Women's Behavioral Health and Wellness at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. It is the first and only perinatal specific program in the state of Colorado. It is designed to help individuals who are pregnant or up to one year postpartum who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and mood challenges. The program is a 8 week program, 3 days a week where moms can bring their babies up to 1 year old into the adjacent playroom. We are looking for volunteers to help in our playroom take care of these babies so moms can be together in group.
