ORGANIZATION: OAKWOOD ARTS INC

image_20250109154437

Oakwood Arts has a mission where art and careers in creative industries are accessible to all through community engagement, inspiring programming, and experiential education. Through our community engagement, in 2020 we created an outdoor space known as the Oakwood Arts learning park that utilizes our green space to provide a COVID-safe place for students and neighbors. Since then it has grown to include an RVA refrigerator and giving libraries which provide PPE, School Supplies, ArtKits & books.

While our focus is in a creative aspect, we still engage in our East End Community with students, parents, and neighbors. We need help maintaining our Oakwood Arts Park, improving our community pantry, and organizing donations towards our giving libraries. Our park includes Giving Libraries stocked with free school supplies, books, toiletries, and Oakwood Art Kits. Please help us to continue to host a welcomely safe outdoor space for our neighbors.

We need assistance cleaning up our Oakwood Arts Park including trash pickup, weeding, improving our RVA fridge/pantry area, and assembling our Art kits and Personal Care Items. We, also, are looking for help transporting unwanted items to be donated to other organizations, such as: Scrap RVA, ToolShop, and more.

Donation items we are looking for: hand sanitizer, masks, covid tests, children/teen books, toiletries (tampons, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.), winter clothes (gloves, jackets, sweaters, scarves, shoes/boots, etc.), and art supplies (esp. watercolor pallets and paintbrushes, construction paper, printer paper, markers).

Mission Statement

We make art and careers in creative industries accessible to all through community engagement, inspiring programming, and experiential education.

Description

Our programs include classes and workshops that focus on the digital and technical skills students need to succeed in the creative workforce. OA JET, which stands for Oakwood Arts Job Education Training, is a training and job placement program for emerging creatives who are currently underrepresented in many creative industries. This program has created an education-to-employment pathway to positions in television, film, and other creative industries for youth and young adults who have an interest in--but not the opportunity--to work in the film industry.
