Do you love being out and about in the iconic Pike Place Market? Are you looking for a meaningful way to support your community? Join us as a Market Grocery Rescue Volunteer and help provide ready-to-eat food for neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Why Join Us?

As a Market Grocery Rescue Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in our No Cook Program by walking around with a cart collecting daily donations of fresh deli items and baked goods from local businesses in Pike Place Market. These contributions directly support individuals by ensuring they have access to ready-to-eat food.

Shifts Needed:
  • Tuesdays: 10 am - 12 pm
Your Role:
  • Collect Donations: Pick up baked goods and deli items from multiple businesses in the market, following established procedures.
  • Record Donations: Weigh and categorize all items, logging them in our receiving system to track their impact.
  • Inspect & Sort: Check expiration dates, ensure quality, and organize donations following food safety guidelines.
  • Store Items: Place donations in their designated areas in the food bank warehouse.
  • Additional Support: After the pick-up and sorting, assist with general food bank operations like sorting, double-bagging, and prepping for other programs.
You Are:
  • Comfortable walking and navigating Pike Place Market in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and push a cart with ease.
  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on food safety and quality.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong communicator.
  • Passionate about supporting food security and community programs.

  • Hands-on training for donation pickups and food safety procedures.
  • Guidance from staff and the Warehouse and Donations Manager.
  • Ongoing support to ensure your success in the role.

In downtown Seattle, the Pike Market Senior Center strives to make each day better and safer for older adults; the Pike Market Food Bank serves people of all ages who face hunger. Together, we provide services, activities, and support that lead to more self sufficient and fulfilling lives.

Description

The Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank is located in the historic Pike Place Market. We have been serving our neighbors in the heart of Seattle since 1978.

The Senior Center serves people age 55 and up. Membership is free and there are no fees for meals, services or regular activities. While people from all walks of life are members of PMSC, we are pioneers in offering senior center programming to elders who are homeless.

The Food Bank serves people of any age, offering free groceries, ready-to-eat food for clients experiencing homelessness, and home delivery for qualified residents of Downtown Seattle. We serve 800 in-person grocery clients weekly and distribute over 300 grocery deliveries.
