Emergency Incident Training Actor

Act your heart out at this unique training event at Joshua Tree National Park!
Volunteers will serve as actors in an emergency incident training event to help law enforcement and emergency responders improve their preparedness. Volunteers will help create a realistic training environment through this scenario-based training. Training and supervision will be provided by park staff on the day of the event.
Volunteers will meet at Park Headquarters in Twentynine Palms, where they will be shuttled to the event location near the Cholla Cactus Garden. Volunteers will be mostly sitting, lying, or standing but may walk up to a mile.
Dates: 2/10, 2/12, 2/15
Start time: 8 am
End time: 2 pm
Volunteers will:
- Portray patients with simulated injuries or medical conditions based on assigned roles to create realistic training scenarios
- Wear makeup or props to visually represent injuries, helping emergency personnel practice treatment techniques
- Act as family members or bystanders to simulate emotional and logistical challenges during an incident
- Respond to instructions provided by scenario coordinators to maintain the flow of the exercise
- Communicate scripted or improvised information about their "injuries" or "concerns" to emergency responders
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the training environment remains controlled and secure
- Cooperate with other team members and the visiting public
Volunteers must:
- Be available 8am - 2pm on at least one of the event dates
- Be able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Be able to hike one mile
- Be able to sit and stand for 1-3 hours
- Have no known allergies to makeup
- Wear their own comfortable clothing that can be dirtied/stained
- Work well with cooperating agencies including ambulance, law enforcement, and fire department staff
- Be able to recognize and avoid potentially hazardous situations
- Be in good physical health
- Be unimpaired by alcohol or drugs
- Provide their own transportation to and from Park Headquarters; shuttles will transport volunteers to the event site
No prior experience with emergency response, first aid, or acting is required!
Participation is limited, and volunteers must register for the project beforehand. Registered participants will receive a confirmation email with detailed location information.
