ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Weed warriors improve ecological and biological conditions within Antietam National Battlefield (ANTI) by way of monitoring, removing, and controlling non-native, invasive plants species from specific areas of the park through manual and mechanical methods.


Requirements to become a weed warrior for Antietam are:

· Attend a theory training session.

· Attend a field training session.

· Select specific area of the park to adopt and design a work plan with the approval of ANTI staff.

· Pass a plant identification knowledge quiz conducted by ANTI staff or a designated person.

· Donate a minimum of 36 hours of work per year to the park.

· The above is to be accomplished under the direction of ANTI staff or a designated person.

· Follow ANTI staff guidelines for reporting, safety, and protection of the resource.


Background knowledge of the non-native, invasive plant species problem, plant identification, and removal methods is preferred, but not required. Please describe any experience you have in these areas, whether volunteer or paid, in the knowledge, skills, and abilities section of the application.
