FEAST’s Food Access Program, launched in March 2020, recovers high quality farm-fresh produce in partnership with Food Forward and Seeds of Hope to distribute to our participants. To address food and nutrition insecurity, Wellness Program Participants receive 10-12 lb bags of fresh produce weekly.
Every other Wednesday, we package over 60 bags of groceries at Mercado la Paloma in South Central from 9:30am - 12pm. Our volunteers are vital to the success of our Food Access program. They support by receiving, sorting, and packaging recovered food for our FEAST participants.
Volunteer tasks include:
- Packaging produce
- Lifting up to 50lbs of recovered food (if able)
- Set up and break down of space
- Sweeping, mopping, breaking down boxes
- Cleaning tables
- Sorting through recovered produce
- Composting inedible food

Mission Statement
FEAST's mission is to promote health and wellness through the power of healthy food and human connection.
Description
At FEAST, we believe that a healthy life has three main ingredients: whole foods, whole people and whole communities. However, we live in a world where many people lack access to basic, healthy fresh affordable foods, and where many more feel isolated from one another. Inequitable food environments, unhealthy diets and social isolation are key contributors to the dramatic rise of obesity and dietary diseases affecting our country today.
In order to address these issues, FEAST works in schools, community centers and hospitals, serving parents or heads of households through our comprehensive 16-week Wellness Program. FEAST has created an innovative approach to health and wellness with a curriculum that brings Food Education, Access, and Support, Together in a unique group setting.
The FEAST group is a safe, supportive environment where individuals and families come together to work on relationships with, and belief systems about, food and health. Each two-hour meeting is separated into two halves. In the first half, participants learn skills to help them navigate a challenging food environment in a healthy manner. The second half is a group discussion where each person has the opportunity to share about their personal struggles and successes along their journey towards health.
