ORGANIZATION: Satellite Affordable Housing Associates

Do you want to help bridge communication barriers? Volunteer to lead an English class for seniors. Class day and time is flexible based on your availability, weekly or biweekly (preferred days and times: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays anytime during business hours, Thursdays after 1 PM)

Volunteers should be fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin). They will support residents developing conversational skills in English including learning how communicate in emergencies, with healthcare providers, and other in everyday conversation. This is a great oppourtunity for those looking to gain teaching experience.

Requirements: Ongoing SAHA Community Volunteers must commit to volunteer a minimum of 4 months, and must complete a volunteer orientation, volunteer forms and background screening prior to beginning their placement.

Description

The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
