ORGANIZATION: East Side Learning Center

VISTA Introduction

East Side Learning Center seeks an AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as a Diversity in Volunteerism VISTA. AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America is a national service program that helps fight poverty in the United States. VISTA members serve full-time for a year with a nonprofit organization to create or expand programs that help communities. You will receive a living allowance from AmeriCorops in the amount of $877.66 bi-weekly

East Side Learning Center Introduction

East Side Learning Center (ESLC) brings together community elders, teachers, and parents, to support struggling readers in its Literacy Mentoring Intervention program (K-3 grade tutoring). In the literacy mentoring intervention program, children participate in 30-40 hours of one-on-one literacy mentoring during, or after school, and/or over the summer. Services are delivered either virtually or in an in-person environment. ESLC seeks a more racially diverse volunteer pool. This VISTA position will work to build capacity for a more racially diverse volunteer pool.

Job Responsibilities:

The VISTA will expand program capacity to recruit and support senior volunteers, increase the number and diversity of volunteer tutors at schools and ESLC’s after school and summer programs. and retain their service for a more positive volunteer experience.

Tasks include:

· Develop a plan for outreach to diverse communities for volunteer recruitment.

· Create a list of recruitment sites

· Design & create recruitment materials including posters to post at recruiting locations.

· Design and develop a speaker’s bureau for the purpose of diverse volunteer recruitment

· Develop training curriculum and materials and train speakers

· Match speakers with speaking opportunities. accompany speakers on volunteer recruitment engagements

· Post the volunteer opportunities in diverse locations

· Develop list of volunteer fairs and tabling event for volunteer recruitment.

· Attend trainings, meetings and events

· Other duties as assigned.

Description

East Side Learning Center (ESLC) is a nonprofit organization based out of St. Paul, MN since 2001. We are an educational partnership with the School Sisters of Notre Dame and a proud host of AARP Foundation Experience Corps. ESLC provides reading tutoring services to low income Kindergarten through 3rd grade students who are not yet reading at grade level. Join us as a volunteer for the upcoming school and help us to make a difference in the lives of St. Paul's most vulnerable children!
