Description:
Are you an experienced editor eager to start making an impact right away? I’m seeking a dedicated Developmental Editor to refine and polish a 78,000-word manuscript in preparation for publication. This is an unpaid volunteer role that offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your editorial expertise, gain professional recognition, and contribute to a mission of promoting literacy and cultural representation.

The manuscript delves into themes of resilience, identity, and cultural representation, with the goal of inspiring readers and enriching contemporary literature. This project aligns with the mission of Book Bytes, a literacy initiative focused on making education accessible to underserved communities. We are looking for someone who can join us and begin work immediately.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct developmental editing to improve the manuscript’s overall structure, pacing, and coherence.
  • Provide detailed feedback on content, narrative flow, and stylistic consistency.
  • Perform line editing to ensure grammatical accuracy and readability.
  • Collaborate to finalize a polished manuscript ready for publication.
What You’ll Gain:
  • Professional Recognition: Your name will be credited as the editor in the published book.
  • Portfolio Development: Add a published work to your portfolio, showcasing your editing skills.
  • Career Development: Build valuable skills and experience that enhance your employability and career prospects.
  • Resume-Boosting Role: Gain valuable voluntary experience
  • Purposeful Contribution: Play a key role in bringing an inspiring story to life while contributing to literacy and cultural representation initiatives.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Prior experience in developmental editing, line editing, or related roles (freelance or professional).
  • Strong command of grammar, structure, and storytelling techniques.
  • Passionate about storytelling, literacy, and cultural representation.
  • Able to meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and begin work immediately.
Additional Information:

This is an unpaid volunteer position, ideal for individuals seeking to enhance their professional experience, build their portfolio, or make a meaningful contribution to a literary project.

How to Apply:

Please submit a brief introduction outlining your editorial experience and interest in the project. If available, include examples of prior editing work or a portfolio link. Applications will be reviewed promptly, and we’re seeking someone available to start immediately.

Why Volunteer?

This role is more than an opportunity to develop your editorial skills-it’s a chance to make an impact right away. By volunteering, you’ll help shape a powerful story that contributes to the mission of literacy and cultural representation, all while gaining professional recognition and valuable experience.
